AI Learning

IIM Ranchi will replace traditional hall-based mid-term exams with AI-integrated problem-solving projects.

The initiative is called “Working with AI” (WAI).

It applies across all courses at the institute.

The goal is to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real, technology-driven business challenges.

Students will work on live business scenarios using AI tools as collaborative partners.

The approach is meant to develop AI competencies organically, not via isolated technology courses.

Despite this change for mid-terms, end-term/hall-based exams will still continue.

The model is a hybrid assessment system, balancing traditional and modern methods.

The institute’s director, Deepak Srivastava, emphasized that theoretical learning alone is increasingly misaligned with business reality.

The initiative reflects a commitment to practical experience in human-AI collaboration—seen as essential workplace skill.

Assessment now involves students demonstrating applied understanding using AI tools and analytics.

The policy is part of a broader curriculum overhaul by IIM Ranchi to make learning more relevant.

The Student Engagement and Development Committee (“SEDC”) supports the change, aiming to combine knowledge with technological fluency.

The WAI initiative may set a precedent for other business schools in India, signaling a shift in how assessments are designed.
