First Sensor Hub in Kolkata

The first sensor center in the nation will be built in Kolkata, where sensors for use in flyovers, multi-story buildings, railroads, and defense would be produced.

It will be a significant step toward the nation being self-sufficient and less dependent on outside production of those sensors.

Whether in railroads or defense, sensors have been a crucial component in preventing disaster. Because of the initiative, it may now be feasible to prevent accidents by taking preventative measures.

Making the nation self-sufficient in this area is the goal of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

As a move in that direction, fiber sensors will soon be produced in Kolkata as well.

The Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR–CGCRI) will be the site of the sensor hub's construction.

The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) provided clarification in the interim. Plans are underway to begin the construction, which includes getting the DPR ready.

Several organizations, including the West Bengal government's Webel, are involved. It is the first in India to set up a hub for producing fibre-based sensors.

In the next four to five years, researchers plan to cut foreign reliance on sensors by roughly 40%.

The 'CSIR-MeitY Innovation Centre' will be a cutting-edge facility for business incubation and Internet of Things IoT sensors.

Additionally, it will be regarded as the nation's first firm to address issues with IoT sensors.

There has been a plan to create sensors that will help identify the source of the accident, pinpoint the defect, or even stop it before it happens.

Fiber Bragg grating sensors, temperature sensors, tilt sensors, displacement sensors, and force sensors are reportedly being developed, according to sources.

This development would mark a significant step towards the country's development.
